CUSITER’S COMMENTS

Dear Editor,
By way of introduction my name is Dan Cusiter and I worked
Firestone 1972, 73 and 74 until Carson Station opened.  The purpose of
writing this email is to give a second opinion of the book “The
Firestone Syndrome".
A few months ago I saw an advertisement about the book and I
immediately sent the email to order it and I anxiously awaited it's
arrival.
As I'm waiting for my book to arrive I start to imagine all of the
incidents and stories that I'm about to read.  I started to reminisce
about the great Police Officers that worked the "Stone".  George
Barthel, probably the finest police office that I had the pleasure of
working around, Jimmy Hollingsworth, Tommy Kettelson, Dan Reidder, Pat
Sullivan, and most of all, my training officer Rudy Jefferson.
Not only one of the best cops that ever worked "The Stone" but also
a great, great person that left a lasting impression just because of
the kind of person that he was.  I was reluctant to put any kind of a
list together because there were so many good cops that worked their
ass off at the "Stone" and the list is made up of thousands.
I reminisced about the countless arrests that were made day in day
out. I thought about guys driving so fast and so reckless to and help
out some citizen that had requested help.  I thought about the guys
that virtually put their life on the line day in and day out.
So my copy of the "The Firestone Syndrome” arrives and I start
reading it.  I can't put the book down.  I keep waiting for the author
to describe how he just woke up from a bad dream.
When I finished reading the book I gathered that the author worked
Firestone however he could never gain acceptance from his peers.  It
appeared that he had an ax to grind and he was making the best of it.
A couple of the stories or incidents were familiar to me but
overall this was not the Firestone that I remember.  I can't tell you
how much I was disappointed by this book.  The book is not well written
and some of the stories are just too far fetched.  I do not remember
any group known as the "Elitists".  The author has intentionally
failed to document the Tradition and the Loyalty of the Stone.
Firestone Sheriff Station, man what a history.  This book is an
injustice to all.  This does not represent the tradition and history of
the "Stone".

Respectfully submitted
